Map from Brisbane to Fraser Coast

Hervey Bay is the main access point to Fraser Island and major regional tourist attractions. It is renowned as a destination for families, couples, backpackers and our famous 'grey nomads'. The whale watching industry has grown to a level where approximately 75,000 visitors per annum depart from their Hervey Bay accommodation on daily whale watching trips. In total, approximately 600,000 visitors come to this region each year. About 1.4 million visitors come to this area on an overnight visit.

Continued strong growth has seen Hervey Bay's population skyrocket from only 30,000 in 1991 to approximately 52,000 in 2006. Trends show this growth rate, one of Australia's highest, will continue well into the next century.
