Rainbow Beach is a relaxed town, which has only been easily accessible since the early 1970's. It is now very popular with holiday makers, particularly four wheel drive enthusiasts, hang-gliders and backpackers. Others may enjoy dolphin, dugong and turtle sightings along the Sandy Straights. In season, whales and wildlflowers may also be viewed. Rainbow Beach has the shortest barge access to Fraser Island which is World Heritage listed, and offers northern
beach access to Cooloola National Park.
