Double Island Point
Double Island Point is located just south of Rainbow Beach. The point is a magnet for marine life of every description. Dolphins and whales (the latter from July to November) are a common sight here and Wolf Rock, a formation of 4 volcanic pinnacles a short distance from the point is rated as one of Australia's top ten dive spots.
As a dive location, there are plenty of swim throughs, vertical gutters and overhanging ledges to explore. Plunging to a depth of 40 metres, it is excellent for multilevel scuba diving. Fish life is prolific and you're likely to see lots of coral trout, perch, mackerel, batfish, leopard sharks, trevally, cod, wobbegong and the famous resident Grey Nurse sharks. Manta ray are frequent visitors and it is home to several giant Queensland groper. There is also great surf at Double Island Point with a right-hand point break with a length of 50 to 150 metres and on a good day up to 300 to 500 metres.
Access is by Four Wheel Drive along the beach heading south from Rainbow Beach or heading north from Noosa North Shore. There is also an overland track (Four Wheel Drive only) from Rainbow Beach which brings you out on the beach quite close to the point.

A number of tours to the Cooloola Section of the Great Sandy National Park and Fraser Island operate out of Rainbow Beach. A commentary provides background information on these truly spectacular natural attractions. For independent travellers, maps and information is available from the Cooloola Region Visitor's Information Centre.
The Cooloola Section of the Great Sandy National Park invites you into a four-wheel drive adventureland of rainforest, freshwater lakes and deserted beaches. The Park is full of bush-walking tracks, picnic facilities, and offers the only beach camping facilities between Fraser Island and Noosa.
Boating is also an excellent option from Rainbow Beach, as Carlo Point offers access to the protected waterways of Tin Can Bay Inlet. From here, recreational boats can put into the Inlet and open up a host of fishing and watersports options for your holiday. And, of course, fishing from the beach remains one of the primary activities of visitors and locals alike.
Whether you're looking for an active holiday or a peaceful getaway, Rainbow Beach is the perfect destination. And it's even more attractive, being the Gateway to Fraser Island.
