Whitsundays - Called this by Lieutenant James Cook when he sailed through the Whitsunday Passage in 1770. The Whitsunday's name derived from Whit Sunday or Pentecost, the religious festival that traditionally celebrates the seventh Sunday after Easter.
Daydream Island - This island is easily accessable from Shute Harbour, Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island. Daydream Island has a unique man-made outdoor aquarium which contains over 40 marine fish species and 50 coral varieties. The lagoons within the aquarium are more popular due to the presence of the colourful clown fish, similiar to the ones in the Walt Disney production of 'Finding Nemo'.
Hamilton Island - This island is the largest inhabitated island in the Whitsundays just off the Queensland coast. There are direct flights daily into its own airport, and ferries will take you to the mainland, other islands and the Great Barrier Reef. The most popular mode of transport on Hamilton Island are the buggies which are for hire, but there is also a free island shuttle service which operates daily. On Hamilton Island, kids from 0 - 14 years stay and eat for free. (conditions apply)

South Molle Island - This island is situated in the heart of the Whitsundays and is a beautiful tropical getaway for couples or families. Enjoy the 16klm walking track or a round of golf on the 9 hole golf course or a night game of tennis on the floodlit courts. Feeding the birds is fun, too.
